Hardly any topic is as important and yet as conflict-laden as “autism and school”.
In Germany, education in school is required by law. This means that from the beginning of school age, the (regular) school is obliged to educate the child. But there may well be legitimate reasons that prevent this. For example, if the child can not cooperate in school life, due to being on the autistic spectrum.
In addition, parents have the right to use an inclusive or integration setting for their own child. Most schools are helplessly overwhelmed in capacity and a lack of expertise. If school attendance is absent or infrequent, a complete collapse ensues. There are some reports from parents who have their child in the home for months and even years because their child is no longer attending school.
In kindergarten, the situation is often just as dramatic, even if the consequences are not so drastic.
